For five days in April, home is the Pudong Shangri-La, on the Huangpu River in Lujiazui and about as central as Shanghai gets. One side looks across the water to the Bund, the long curve of century-old stone and Art Deco facades that made Shanghai’s name; the other looks up at the towers of Pudong.
The hotel is two buildings joined at the lobby, the River Wing and the Grand Tower, with around 950 rooms and suites between them. Almost everything you need for the week is inside it: eight places to eat and drink, a spa, a 24-hour health club, and the meeting rooms where we will spend our days.
Rooms in the River Wing look west across the water to the Bund or back over Pudong; Grand Tower rooms run a little larger. Some categories include Horizon Club lounge access with private check-in.
Eight restaurants and bars, including the all-day Yi Cafe and Jade on 36, a MICHELIN-listed room on the 36th floor of the Grand Tower with a view to match.
CHI, The Spa and a health club that runs 24 hours, a business centre, a salon, and wired and wireless internet throughout the hotel.
The Board Meeting and every session take place in the hotel’s own meeting rooms, so the trip from your room to the first session of the day is a lift ride.

Pudong International Airport (PVG) is about 40 km away, roughly 45 minutes by taxi or private car in normal traffic. If you would rather take the train, the Maglev followed by Metro Line 2 to Lujiazui station leaves you a short walk from the hotel door. From Hongqiao (SHA) it is around 35 minutes.
It is worth saving the hotel address on your phone, in Chinese, before you land, so you can show it at the taxi rank. Full details are on the Transportation page.
